What is AEO?

What do the AEO checks cover?

Each category is a group of related checks. Examples show the kind of thing that is tested, not a complete list.

Is the answer easy to find on the page?

An answer engine looks for the sentence that answers the question. It should be near the top and easy to lift out.

Examples of what is tested

  • A direct answer under the main heading
  • Question-style headings
  • Short paragraphs and lists where they fit

How to improve

Put a one or two sentence answer straight under the h1 and use headings that match real questions.

Is the meaning of the page clear to a machine?

Clear headings, landmarks, and descriptive link text tell a parser how the page is organized.

Examples of what is tested

  • Heading order and landmarks
  • Descriptive link text
  • Consistent terms for the same thing

How to improve

Use one h1, a logical heading order, and link text that says where the link goes.

Are product and offer facts available as data?

Price, availability, and identifiers are easier to read as structured data than as text in the page.

Examples of what is tested

  • Availability and inventory markup
  • Product attribute completeness
  • Standard product identifiers such as GTIN or MPN
  • Order and price specification types

How to improve

Add Product and Offer markup with price, availability, and identifiers to product pages.

Can an agent discover and use what your site can do?

Agents need to find actions such as search, not only read text.

Examples of what is tested

  • Site search that is described in markup
  • Machine-readable action descriptions
  • Signals for agent tool protocols

How to improve

Describe your search and key actions with schema.org Action types and keep a proper search form on the page.

Can an agent get through a purchase?

For shops, agent-friendly checkout and payment signals decide whether an agent can complete an order. They apply to pages that sell something.

Examples of what is tested

  • Checkout flows an agent can follow
  • Payment method and token signals

How to improve

Expose checkout and payment options in machine-readable form. The Agentic Commerce add-on tests this in more depth.

How do you run the AEO checks?

Scan a page or a whole site. Every scan runs the four core tracks, and the report lists each failed check with its fix.

Start a scan and open the AEO section of the report to see each check, its result and the fix.

Where is the full list of AEO checks?

In the report in the app. Each check has its result, severity and fix. The public pages describe what each category covers.

How is the AEO score calculated?

From weighted checks. Every deduction ties to one check and one fix, and the four track scores combine into the overall score. How the score is built.

Will fixing a check improve my rankings or citations?

It makes your site easier to find, read and quote. Benchmarq measures readiness and does not promise rankings, citations or traffic.
